The big day has arrived!  Although entering school is a significant step for both parent(s)

and child, it is our plan to make the upcoming year a wonderful experience for both you and your

child.  Our goal is to work together with you for the successful physical, emotional, social and

mental growth of your child.

Curriculum

The overall guide for curriculum is the Prekindergarten Curriculum Guidelines from the

Texas Education Agency, which the teacher has available for you to read if you would like.

The guidelines are divided into categories of intellectual, aesthetic, physical and

social/emotional development.

The classroom format is a centers approach to learning.  There are eight different areas

of play learning planned and arranged by the teacher.  Your child will be allowed

(with minimal limitations) to choose which center he/she wants to go to, and to move to other

centers when ready.  These centers will include, but are not limited to blocks, housekeeping,

manipulatives, language arts, creative art, discovery, sensory and writing.  Each is carefully set

up to provide specific learning experiences for your child, and will be changed at regular intervals.

Learning centers provide children with many advantages.  Not only are they allowed to

make their own choices, but they are also free to learn independently and at their own level of

development.  Centers invite children to learn with hands-on experiences by seeing, talking,

feeling, listening, and touching.  Also, the teacher is free to work with children one at a time and

watch their progress as individuals.
