Membership in the National Honor Society is based on:
  (1) cumulative grade point average of 94 with required number of Pre-AP, AP, or Honors Courses
  (2) leadership
  (3) service
  (4) character

Selection Procedure
The Faculty Advisory Council selects members on the basis of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Students must have attended MHS for at least one full semester in order to be eligible for membership, have a cumulative GPA of 94 or above, and currently ranked as a sophomore, junior, or senior. In addition, students eligible for membership as sophomores must have completed or be enrolled in 2 Pre-AP, AP or honors classes. Students eligible for membership as juniors must have completed or be enrolled in 3 Pre-AP, AP or honors classes. Students eligible for membership as seniors must have completed or be enrolled in 4 Pre-AP, AP or honors classes. Once scholarship requirements have been met, the Council will be given a list of eligible candidates to select. Induction of new members will be held in the spring of the school year.

Transfer Members
Transfer members from other NHS chapters may be admitted to the Meridian NHS chapter if they meet the scholarship requirements for our chapter and verification of membership in good standing from their previous school.

Graduation with NHS Honors
In order to graduate with NHS honors (collar, seal on diploma, NHS designation in graduation program, etc.) students must:
(1) Be a member in good standing (meet attendance requirements at meetings, complete required community service, and not be on probation)
(2) Have completed 4 AP, Pre-AP or Honors Courses
(3) Have a cumulative GPA of 94 or above

Meetings/Responsibilites
NHS meetings will be the first Wednesday of each month at 7:40 a.m. The Secretary will keep membership attendance. Members are required to attend all meetings unless absent from school or at a school sponsored activity. Meetings missed will result in an increase of required community service hours. It is also each member's responsibility to check their cumulative GPA at the end of every semester.
