Parents and Community Members,
As you have probably heard, we have now received Chromebooks that will allow us to go 1:1 in grades 2-12. Students in 6th - 12th grade will take their device home daily. MES students will keep their Chromebooks at school. Below is some information that will help you understand how we are using these Chromebooks to support learning at Meridian ISD.
Devices will be distributed to MHS students on Monday, January 11th. The Chromebooks will be used in class, for homework and for students who are learning remote. Students will be directed by their teachers to visit educational websites and apps. Only those sites given by teachers should be visited. Most class materials will be located in Google Classroom or ClassLink. Teachers have a program where they can see all of their students' devices and can control what they are doing at all times during school hours. All devices are monitored through Meridian ISD’s Google Administration Console and block content that is not related to education.
Here are two videos that we have shown MHS students. These videos are reminders of Acceptable Use and how to care for the Chromebooks.
Secondary students are expected to bring their Chromebook to school daily, and fully charged. Students will return the Chromebook and charger at the end of the year. They will receive the same device next year. Chromebook cases or covers may be purchased, if you would like (Device type: Lenovo 100e 2nd generation).
When at home, non-educational sites will still be blocked since the Chromebook is on Meridian ISD’s Google Administration Console. The Chromebooks can only be logged into using the student’s school email.
Please remember that grades 6-12 need to turn in required paperwork by Friday, January 8th. We will have more information coming soon for MES students. If you have any questions, please contact the campus secretary.
