Meridian PD was contacted and after an investigation, it was determined that someone in a nearby neighborhood had discharged a firearm.

Instructional Changes in Grades 6th-12th
Due to a few confirmed cases of Covid at MHS and students who were in close contact, our Secondary campus will be doing Asynchronous (Remote) instruction only beginning tomorrow through Tuesday, February 2. We plan to have secondary students return to face to face instruction on Wednesday, February 3.
Having them be remote for this length of time allows us to separate and mitigate possible spread. All staff members will report to campus and be available as needed for student assistance. 6th-12th grade students are required to check their student emails, log into Google classroom and complete assignments.
Daily from 10:30-12:30, MHS will offer breakfast and lunch to our students in a drive through fashion by the high school gym entrance. Bus routes will run as normal.
Extracurricular events and practices may run as normal and those students will be contacted by sponsors/coaches regarding specifics.
As we continually monitor our staff and students, the elementary students have been unaffected by high school and will remain in their traditional face to face setting.
With JH & HS being remote and MES remaining face to face, we will not have to adjust our school calendar.
Please contact your child’s campus for questions you may have.
Thank you for your help and support as we deal with these new issues.
Stay Safe, Stay Well & Stay Blessed,
Mrs. Edwards

Canceled- Due to the rise in COVID cases and in order to keep everyone safe over Christmas Break, the Family, Food, and Fun night next Wednesday, Dec. 23 from 5:30-8:30 pm in the High School Cafeteria has been canceled.
We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas Break!!

Meridian ISD has seen a rise in confirmed cases of COVID and close contacts among our staff and students over the past few days. In an attempt to mitigate spread among our community, students will dismiss today at our regular time, 3:25, for the Christmas holidays and not return until January 5, 2021 per our district calendar. Although MISD staff will be working tomorrow, students will not attend school. December 17 was set as an early dismissal day already so students will only be missing a “half day” and will not have to make up that time. Please know that MHS is running an adjusted schedule today to accommodate students finishing final exams. MES has chosen to postpone their holiday parties set for tomorrow until after the holidays. I will be posting more info when I have it but for now, I wanted you to be aware so you could make appropriate plans. Thanks for your flexibility and help in sharing this post to get the word out! Mrs. Edwards

Meridian ISD has approximately 5% of our students currently participating in Remote Learning in an asynchronous style. This is the same format we have been using this year which includes video instruction from teachers, using Google classroom, submitting assignments online and being actively engaged.
As part of the Remote Learning Agreement, students must be passing and actively participating to have the option to remain remote. We continually monitor the progress of all students, and specifically our remote learners.
At this time, we will continue to offer Remote/asynchronous instruction for students who meet the criteria. For students who haven’t been successful with Remote Learning, parents will be contacted and Remote Learning will no longer be an option.
Meridian ISD has also chosen to delay starting synchronous (live feed) instruction until January 5, 2021. For the benefit of our students, we want to be sure our technology and devices are in order prior to launching that project.
Thanks!

Change in Summer Workout Schedule
Our number one priority is keeping our athletes and families safe. With that in mind, we will delay the start of Jacket Camp (Summer Workouts) by one week and resume them on July 20th from 8:00-11:00 am. This will give us 14 days from July 4th, when people may have been out of state or in large groups that day. Again, our number one priority is the safety off all involved. #RTS

Looking Forward to 2020-21
As most of you have hopefully read or heard, Governor Abbott recently announced schools will be reopening for on-campus instruction for the 2020-21 school year. At this time, no specific guidance from TEA has been issued to districts regarding what that “reopening” will look like.
TEA Commissioner Mike Morath has told districts across the state to expect guidance for in-person instruction to be released on or around July 2. MISD is currently planning for students to return to school for in person instruction on August 19, 2020 with adjustments made to help keep our children safe while also providing them with a quality education. Our focus will continue to be on the health and safety students, staff, families and community. As we have all discovered through this pandemic, it is an ever-changing situation and we will continue to monitor it and adjust accordingly. As we receive information and guidance from state and local officials, I will keep you all updated.
Stay Well, Stay Safe, Stay Blessed, Stay Awesome!
