SHAC

School Health Advisory Council

Meridian ISD has established a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) with members appointed by the school board. These members, a majority of who are parents of students enrolled in the district and not employed by the district, represent different segments of the community. The MISD SHAC has adopted the following guiding principles:

Vision: All Meridian ISD students will grow academically, socially, and physically to fit their full potential.

Mission: To be an advisory group of individuals who represent segments of the community and school to act collectively by providing advice to the school system on aspects of the school health program as mandated by the Texas Legislature.

Goal: The goal of the Meridian ISD SHAC is to work with the district to support good health and academic achievement. This will be implemented through:

  1. Planned sequential health education

  2. Physical education classes

  3. School health services

  4. Healthy school environment

  5. Counseling, psychological and social services

  6. Health promotion for staff

  7. School nutrition

  8. Community-school connection

Purpose: The purpose of the SHAC in Meridian ISD is to serve in an advisory capacity in order to promote student performance by promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Meetings: The MISD SHAC meets at least 2 times during the school year in order to facilitate student health.
