Meridian ISD is committed to transparency and keeping our community informed about district operations and planning. We would like to share two important documents from our recent February 9, 2026, Board of Trustees meeting.
Uncertified Teacher Waiver Application
During the regular meeting, the Board considered and approved an Uncertified Teacher Waiver Application. Pursuant to Texas Education Code § 21.0032 (a-1), this application respectfully requests approval to delay the full implementation of certification requirements for foundation curriculum teachers until the 2029-2030 school year.
The district has developed a comprehensive strategic plan to reach 100% certification compliance by 2029. This plan includes:
Support Partnerships: Ongoing partnerships with Tarleton State University, Teachworthy, and Indiana Wesleyan University to provide our teachers with the training and mentorship needed for certification.
Transition Timeline: A multi-year goal to gradually reduce the number of uncertified teachers of record through strategic hiring and educator preparation program enrollment.
Current Status: At present, approximately 29% of our foundation curriculum teachers are working toward full certification.
Board Meeting Information
The board meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. in the Meridian Elementary Library. In addition to the waiver application, the session included a public hearing on accountability and various reports regarding district athletics, finances, and campus progress.
