NEW INFO COMING ABOUT THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR Local school districts received additional guidance from the Texas Education Agency yesterday, July 7, regarding face to face instruction for 20-21. Meridian ISD is busy developing plans for what returning to school will look like. As plans become more final, we will share that information with you. Change in Summer Workout Schedule Our number one priority is keeping our athletes and families safe. With that in mind, we will delay the start of Jacket Camp (Summer Workouts) by one week and resume them on July 20th from 8:00-11:00 am. This will give us 14 days from July 4th, when people may have been out of state or in large groups that day. Again, our number one priority is the safety off all involved. #RTS

UPDATES -MISD Graduation and Bridge Ceremonies MISD has been in close communication with the City of Meridian and the MISD Graduation and Bridge ceremonies will continue as planned. We ask that if you are not comfortable attending these ceremonies in person, please watch them live on our Meridian ISD1 Facebook page. If you do plan to attend in person, plese review and adhere to the guildelines found here. https://www.meridianisd.org/o/meridian-isd/news We are watching the weather very closely and any changes made due to weather will be posted here. All of the work put into hosting these events is for our students and their families. We want these ceremonies to honor our students and their accomplishments. Looking Forward to 2020-21 As most of you have hopefully read or heard, Governor Abbott recently announced schools will be reopening for on-campus instruction for the 2020-21 school year. At this time, no specific guidance from TEA has been issued to districts regarding what that “reopening” will look like. TEA Commissioner Mike Morath has told districts across the state to expect guidance for in-person instruction to be released on or around July 2. MISD is currently planning for students to return to school for in person instruction on August 19, 2020 with adjustments made to help keep our children safe while also providing them with a quality education. Our focus will continue to be on the health and safety students, staff, families and community. As we have all discovered through this pandemic, it is an ever-changing situation and we will continue to monitor it and adjust accordingly. SCHOOL CALENDAR UPDATE After a recommendation from Mrs. Edwards, the MISD Board of Trustees has approved a revision to the 2020-2021 District Calendar. The revised calendar has been posted to the website. Changes made by the district are in direct response to being better prepared to deal with COVID and possible school closures as we move through the 2020-21 school year. For now, students will return to school on Wednesday, August 19 but in the case of a school closure, it designates "make-up" days in the month of June. Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) provides eligible families with a one-time payment for each child who previously received free or reduced-price meals at school. MISD has sent letters to eligible families, we just want to remind you to enroll in the program if you are eligible. Graduation Ticket Pick Up starts today. Please go by the High School Office to get your tickets and other information: Today 1:00-6:00 pm, Tuesday & Wednesday 1:00-3:00 pm.
